My short conclusion

Getabstract is the ideal companion for professional development. In my 6 month getabstract test it bailed me out one or the other time. I started a new job and worked much more closely with IT development there. The Scrum method is used there, which I was familiar with, but did not know how it worked in detail.

I checked my getabstract account that evening, typed Scrum into the search bar and immediately found 10 book summaries. I listened to them all over the weekend and the next Monday I was able to shine with my newly acquired knowledge.

In terms of price, getabstract is more expensive than its competitor Blinkist, but with the 10% voucher (more on that later) you get around € 7.50 per month. This is lunch.

Getabstract has one disadvantage, however. Not all summaries are available as audio books. Many are only available in text form. This is of course impractical for driving or jogging.

Blinkist vs. getabstract?

Many people ask themselves the question: Blinkist or getabstract?

In this paragraph I want to help you answer this question. I use both providers, or my wife has a Blinkist account and I have a getabstract account. So I can show you the advantages and disadvantages of both worlds. At this point, however, it should be said that there can be individual reasons for or against a provider for everyone. I’m trying to help you with your decision.

Blinkist vs getabstract – Difference 1 – The categories

The most important and biggest difference are the categories and thus also the titles. Blinkist tries to offer book summaries from as many areas of life as possible. So also a lot of lifestyle, hobby and niche books. Getabstract, on the other hand, focuses heavily on career topics and does not have such a great focus on lifestyle topics.

In terms of price, getabstract is the more expensive provider. However, you also have a little more choice here. Blinkist is cheaper and more flexible. With the choice of a monthly or annual subscription, you have significantly more flexibility.

Getabstract or Blinkist based on the price: If you are a saver and pay close attention to the price, then you should choose Blinkist. If the greater choice and career topics are more important to you, and you have no problem with annual subscriptions, then getabstract is the right choice for you.

The last big difference between the two is the company patrols. Getabstract focuses on addressing companies. It offers special learning software for companies and helps to establish a culture of learning in the company.

Individual learning paths for employees can be created with learning sprints.

Blinkist has also been offering company trains for some time. There is also software that can be used to track which books and how many books are consumed in the company. Compared to getabstract, there is much less focus on it and the content of getabstract is better suited for companies.

My Blinkist experience – 6 months long-term test

Blinkist, the Netflix for book summaries. The app does not replace a book, but great for topic insights and research!

My short conclusion

My quick conclusion in advance: I’ve had the Blinkist app for over 6 months. I used Blinkist very intensively for the first month. But after a few weeks I totally forgot about the app. It wasn’t until a work colleague recommended Daniel Pink’s book “Drive” that I remembered the app again. I immediately checked whether the summary was available on Blinkist. YES there is the book in the app. I listened to the key points of the book, made a few notes, and the next day I was able to exchange ideas with my colleague on the subject. Since the book is not a scientific treatise and the key messages were enough to have a say on this topic, the app absolutely served its purpose in this case.

However, if you want to buy a Blinkist just so that you don’t have to read whole books anymore, you shouldn’t get the app. Blinkist does not replace books. You can compare the app to a snack. Some eat a snack and are then full, others get really hungry then.

Blinkist Advantage Example: If you want to get an insight into the topic of politics in the USA, you can listen to the book summaries of 8 books in 2.5 hours:

As I said, the Blinks are no substitute for a book, but for a quick and varied look at a topic it is great and an absolute recommendation from me.

2. If it keeps going, why not choose a book from my list?

How do I cancel Blinkist?

I have read from many people that canceling a Blinkist subscription should be difficult. I can not confirm. Canceling the Blinkist is child’s play. If you cancel your Blinkist subscription, you can still use it for as long as the duration you have selected goes. After that, however, you no longer have access to the Blinks & Co. Depending on where you bought, you have to follow these steps:

Blinkist has the best price-performance ratio of any book summary provider. With over 4500 titles & many audio books for only 6.67 € per month, Blinkist is number 1. I use the app regularly and it helps me to keep my finger on the pulse, to quickly get an overview of topics and new books to read to find.

At the beginning of the Power MBA there are various events where you can get to know your fellow students. At the start there is the Global Welcome Webinar. There you will be explained exactly how the program works and what to expect. A few days later the speed networking events begin. There you have the opportunity to network with Power MBA students from your region (continent). Usually there are 50-100 people in these calls. You will then automatically be divided into small groups of 5-10 people and you can get to know each other better with small tasks.

Global Speednetworking Event

I can only recommend these events to you. Even if it is initially uncomfortable to sit in a zoom call with complete strangers from different nations. But you will get to know the most interesting people there. In my first speed networking event, I met a startup founder from Israel, multiple Ultra Man participants from New York, a rocket scientist from Finland and an engineer from Munich.

At the beginning of each semester there is the Meet your Teachers Webniare. Here the Power MBA employees interview the mentors. These lectures are live, but you can always watch the recording afterwards. You can submit your questions about a week before the webinar. If the questions are interesting enough, they will be asked and answered by the mentor during the webinar.

Furthermore, the Power MBA lecturers appear again and again in the videos and teach on the respective topic. At the end of each lesson, you can provide feedback and ask questions. These will be answered by the Power MBA team, usually in less than 24 hours. Here you can also ask questions directly about the mentor or topic.

5 Learnings from Chris Barton 

That teaches me how pointless it is to work on a company for the sake of money. I can only master challenges if I stand behind what I do with passion and heart and soul.
